Attendance Officer job summary

Reporting to: SLT Lead – Attendance and Standards

Line Manager: PA to Associate Headteacher

Hours of work: 37 hours per week. Monday to Thursday 8.30am – 4:30pm, Fridays 8.30am – 4:00pm (including 30 minutes unpaid lunch break). Start times can be discussed. Term time (including Inset days - 39 weeks per year)

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the associate staff team at Henley in Arden School, an Ofsted ‘Good’ and highly performing school set in the beautiful Stratford-upon-Avon area, with easy transport links. A full time Attendance Officer is required to be responsible for all student attendance administration. The role will be to ensure that all students are accounted for on a daily basis and weekly/termly reports are produced. Previous experience would be an advantage, but training will be provided.

The key responsibilities for this post are as follows (a comprehensive job description is available):

Be accountable to the Deputy Headteacher for daily attendance monitoring including, but not limited to:

  • Assisting the school in achieving School targets for attendance and punctuality
  • Monitoring late arrival of students
  • Tracking student attendance
  • Monitoring of alternative provision attendance
  • Speaking and supporting students who need to improve attendance and/or punctuality
  • Set up & lead attendance panels, issue stage 1,2,3 letters
  • Communicating with parents and outside agencies, arranging and attending meetings as appropriate
  • When required make home visits to students / families identified with attendance issues, in line with safe practices

Plan, monitor and in conjunction with other team members implement interventions to ensure improvement in attendance for persistent absentees (pathways, pre-pathways and alternative provision)

Responsible for the monitoring of whole school attendance targets and planning and in conjunction with other team members implementing interventions to enable the school to meet these targets

Responsible for preparing reports for SLT and governors as requested.

Responsible for management ofthe impact document for attendance intervention, to include individual and student group analysis

Responsible for all admin tasks associated with the role of attendance officer.

May be asked to undertake other tasks that are reasonable and proportionate as directed by the Associate Headteacher

Qualifications required (a comprehensive person specification is available):

5 GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths and English at Grade C or above
