Job Title: Attendance Officer
Actual Starting Salary: £27,362 - £29,850 Based on Term Time only plus inset days.
Full Time Equivalent Salary: £31,954 - £34,860 (CLF Grade D) Based on Full Time hours, All year round.
Contract Type: Fixed Term until 31 August 2027
Hours: 37 hours per week
Provisional Start date: April 2026

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Attendance Officers to join our team at John Cabot Academy. We are seeking individuals with a strong understanding of the barriers to attendance, excellent organisational skills, and the confidence to build positive relationships with students, families, and external partners. You will play a key role in promoting a positive culture of attendance and maintaining accurate, statutory attendance records in line with academy policy and legislation. The attached job description and person specification provide full details of the responsibilities and expectations.
The Attendance Officers will work closely with parents and carers to improve attendance outcomes, ensuring pupils are supported, monitored, and encouraged to engage fully with academy life. You will take a proactive approach; identifying concerns early, implementing interventions, and contributing to an inclusive, supportive environment for all students.
About you:
You will have:
- Good literacy and numeracy skills, evidenced by GCSE Maths and English or equivalent qualifications or experience.
- An understanding of the wide range of issues that can impact a young person’s attendance and a willingness to stay informed of developments in this area.
- A good understanding of safeguarding within an educational setting or transferable safeguarding experience.
- Strong administrative experience, including maintaining accurate records, following processes, handling sensitive information, and working to strict deadlines.
- Excellent ICT skills, including the ability to analyse data, input information accurately, and produce high‑quality reports and statistics.
- The ability to build strong, professional relationships with students, parents/carers, academy staff, and external agencies.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to manage challenging or sensitive conversations professionally.
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve attendance targets and improve outcomes for pupils.
- Full, clean driving licence with daily access to a vehicle and willingness to obtain business insurance.
