We seek applications from those of the Catholic faith, all faiths and of no faith but who are supportive of our Christian values and ethos.

St Mary’s Catholic School is seeking a committed and enthusiastic Attendance Officer to join our team.

Are you passionate about safeguarding and supporting young people to achieve their best? Do you have excellent organisational skills and a keen eye for detail? Did you know that poor attendance significantly impacts pupil achievement and vulnerable groups are disproportionately affected and every day missed reduces the chance of achieving good grades? Would you like to be a positive influence that can support good attendance and punctuality?

As an Attendance Officer, you will help raise achievement by improving attendance and punctuality; you will support safeguarding by identifying and notifying relevant parties of individual concerns regarding pupil attendance and punctuality. You will be supporting the promotion of positive attitudes by pupils and their families towards education and be required to contact parents if an explanation for absence is not received.

The Postholder will be responsible for the monitoring of whole school attendance, identifying and flagging trends and patterns, contacting home if students are not in school. They will work collaboratively with form tutors and other staff to ensure that lateness and absence is recorded accurately and reliably in accordance with School Policies.

With 1121 pupils, St Mary’s is a thriving secondary school dedicated to ensuring every student is supported to attend, achieve, and succeed. As our Attendance Officer, you’ll play a vital role in promoting a culture of punctuality and high attendance, working closely with pupils, families and staff to remove barriers to learning.

This is an in person role based at St Mary’s Catholic School in Bishop’s Stortford. You will be working with a range of school professionals and liaising with parents/carers on a daily basis.

What we’re looking for:

Strong communication and administrative skills

Experience working with young people and families

A positive, proactive approach and a commitment to safeguarding

Previous experience in school attendance or a related field is preferred but not essential.

In return, we offer:

A friendly and supportive school community

Opportunities for professional development and training

A role where you can make a real difference to young people’s lives

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. A DBS disclosure is required for all successful applicants. St Mary’s is committed to the equality of opportunity for all applicants, and we reserve the right to interview on a rolling basis, therefore an early application is advisable.
