What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking for a Behaviour Manager to join us at Harris Aspire Academy to lead our GAIN ("Grasp, Achieve, Improve, Next Steps") Provision.

This is a new and exciting opportunity for a dynamic and highly motivated individual to join our pastoral team to further strengthen the support that we provide to all students. You will have a passion for making a difference in the lives of young people, will be sensitive and resilient and will be on the front line in supporting our young people to exceed their potential and become students with character, courage and conscience who are academically and personally successful.

We would like to hear from you if you have:

  • GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above, or equivalent
  • Knowledge of behaviour for learning policies
  • Knowledge of the range of barriers to learning that students face
  • Training in child protection and safeguarding procedures
  • Basic knowledge of first aid; e.g. emergency first aid course
  • Degree or equivalent
  • Three years' experience of working in an inner city school or educational establishment
  • Experience of dealing successfully with a range of behaviour issues
  • Experience of working with staff to ensure excellent behaviour for learning
  • Experience of working with families
  • Experience of supervising a group of students for detentions, referral and internal exclusion as appropriate
  • Experience of working with challenging students and finding ways in which we can meet their needs more successfully

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading on the consistent implementation of the Behaviour and Learning policy of Central GAIN
  • Managing the calm and purposeful entrance and exit of students into, out of and around the GAIN and the Aspire Academy
  • Leading other members of the GAIN team to ensure students are monitored throughout the day including during break and throughout lunch
  • Liaising between GAIN and the home academy for any aspect of behaviour/safeguarding issues
  • Ensuring that students enter the building in full academy uniform and if not, following agreed procedures
  • Ensuring that follow up action is taken for students failing to meet GAIN expectations
  • Following through on any issues to do with behaviour, such as taking student statements regarding incidents and passing these on to relevant colleagues
  • Working closely with students to encourage positive outcomes by setting targets, arranging relevant meetings and tracking progress
  • Preparing students' files for their time at GAIN and completing a placement report for their home academy
  • Presenting reports of students' progress to review meetings
  • Ensuring that issues relating to student safety, such as allegations of bullying, are passed on for further investigation
  • Liaising with the home academy to enable the delivery of the curriculum offer
  • Liaising with teaching staff to ensure appropriate work is set and appropriate provision is in place, and ensuring that students complete tasks to the expected standard
  • Liaising with parents, carers and relevant staff to ensure a smooth transition to and from GAIN placement
  • Maintaining a calm and purposeful learning environment
  • Following up on truancy or attendance concerns
  • Reducing potential permanent exclusion by offering an alternative curriculum which includes rigorous behaviour for learning intervention
  • Implementing a clear structure of learning, considering innovative measures to maintain and raise student engagement
