What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking for a Pastoral Support Manager to support staff and students at Harris Academy Bermondsey, covering maternity leave. In this role, you will lead and manage the pastoral needs of a specific year group, developing and implementing effective systems and strategies to ensure every student is supported in reaching their full educational potential.

You will play a key role in promoting a safe and inclusive school environment with high standards of behaviour, enabling all students to thrive. By using a range of techniques, including pupil counselling; you will help address and remove barriers to learning, with a strong focus on supporting the academic, social, and emotional wellbeing of our students.

This role is term time only, and the actual salary will be £33,468-£35,007 (38 weeks per year, 37.5 hours per week) based on a 12-month contract.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Contribute to whole school improvement planning and pastoral strategy development.
  • Support monitoring, evaluation, and school self-evaluation processes.
  • Collaborate with Key Stage and Learning Coordinators to address underachievement and barriers to learning.
  • Lead behaviour management within the year group, using interventions such as detentions, reports, and referrals.
  • Implement strategies to improve attendance and punctuality, ensuring targets are met.
  • Monitor student movement and manage out-of-lesson tracking systems.
  • Plan and oversee enrichment activities to boost motivation and attainment.
  • Support rewards and recognition systems to encourage positive behaviour and academic effort.
  • Deliver assemblies and foster a culture of achievement and respect.
  • Build strong relationships with parents through meetings, calls, letters, and events.
  • Represent the school in welfare meetings and collaborate with external agencies for student support.
  • Lead on student welfare strategies, including uniform policy, conflict resolution, and exam support.
  • Monitor wellbeing and coordinate with staff and external partners to ensure effective safeguarding and guidance.
  • Maintain accurate student records and reports, including behaviour, attendance, and punctuality data.
  • Manage year group communications via internal platforms and parent forums.
  • Promote student voice through structured systems of feedback and engagement.
  • Support daily operations through duties at break/lunch and attendance at school meetings.
  • Provide First Aid support and maintain current certification.
