Behaviour Support Worker job summary
As a Behaviour Support Worker at Maiden Erlegh School, you will help maintain a calm, orderly school day and support students to engage with their learning. You will supervise Supported Study and Inclusion, uphold behaviour expectations across the school, and provide accurate information that helps teaching and pastoral colleagues respond to concerns.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain calm, purposeful Supported Study and Inclusion environments where students can understand and complete the work provided.
- Uphold behaviour expectations through supervision, On Patrol, Daily After School Detention and support for the Pastoral Team across year groups.
- Support students in a firm, fair and professional manner, contributing to their wellbeing and a safe, orderly school environment.
- Analyse behaviour information and maintain accurate attendance and behaviour records so teaching, pastoral and inclusion colleagues can identify concerns and respond promptly.
- Follow safeguarding procedures, health and safety requirements, risk assessments and school policies.
- Build positive professional relationships with students, colleagues, parents and carers, and external agencies as required.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
You will have NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in English and maths, and relevant experience of working with young people in education, youth work, health, social services or a comparable setting. You will be able to maintain high expectations with a firm but friendly approach, including when working with vulnerable or disaffected students.
You will communicate effectively with young people and adults, organise supervision and records accurately, and analyse behaviour information to produce clear reports. You will understand child protection and confidentiality, respond calmly to students’ needs, and be committed to safeguarding and ongoing development. The ability or desire to drive the school minibus would be an advantage.

Maiden Erlegh School is a highly successful comprehensive school for students aged 11-18, situated in Lower Earley, near Reading. Our students are a pleasure to work with, and relationships between students and staff are consistently positive, respectful and constructive. Students are keen to learn, curious, polite and enthusiastic, with high expectations of themselves. They rise to challenge positively, which is reflected in their strong academic and personal outcomes. Our results continue to improve year on year, with the school placing in the top 50 schools nationally for Progress 8. We also have a thriving sixth form, with many students choosing to continue their studies with us post-16.
