Breakfast Club Assistant job summary

We’re looking for exceptional candidates who:

  • Believe in nurturing the whole child - socially, emotionally, and physically - through healthy routines and positive interactions.

Main Purpose of the Role:

To assist the Breakfast Club Leader in supervising children attending Breakfast Club, providing appropriate activities, encouraging co-operation, securing their safety, monitoring well-being and ensuring good behaviour.

Responsibilities

Supervise children in collecting food, being seated, clearing away crockery, moving to activities, in activity area and/or playground as appropriate.

Help organise play and art activities, reading and homework support.

Establish good relationships with children; interact positively with children, encouraging cooperation and mutual support; monitor children’s well-being and readiness for class; provide help and support to children.

Encourage good behaviour by using praise and reward and taking action with poor behaviour in line with school policy.

Deal with minor incidents and disputes and where appropriate, refer serious incidents to Senior Lunchtime Co-ordinator/SLT or nominated supervisor

Ensure health and safety of children.

Take pride in providing enjoyable breakfast and activities for pupils.

Build up warm and positive relationships with pupils.

Anticipates pupils needs and makes suggestions to support them.

Undertake first aid as needed, following health and safety guidelines. Undertake training as appropriate, eg. basic first aid

Clean up spillages or debris around the dining/play areas to ensure the maintenance of good order, discipline and safety

Be aware of and support diversity and ensure equal opportunities for all Build effective working relationships with others by being open and honest e.g. admitting when a mistake is made.

Acknowledge the need for team working e.g. help new starters settle into the school.

Speak clearly to colleagues and listen carefully to colleagues, using questions to check understanding.

Treat all colleagues in a courteous and helpful manner, challenging any discriminating behaviour.

Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person

Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required

Undertake any other duties commensurate with the level of the post, as required to ensure the efficient and effective running of the Department/ Section
