Business Studies Teacher & Curriculum Lead (Maternity Cover) job summary

Chiltern Hills Academy is seeking a passionate Business Studies Teacher to take on the additional responsibility of Curriculum Lead during a period of maternity cover. This is an exciting opportunity to influence the direction, quality, and impact of Business Studies within a thriving secondary school.

About the Role

As Curriculum Lead for Business Studies, you will play a key role in shaping high‑quality teaching and learning across the department. Responsibilities include:

Developing and leading a well‑sequenced, ambitious curriculum that meets the needs of all learners and reflects current educational standards.

Ensuring consistency and high expectations across the department through modelling best practice and supporting colleagues with planning and teaching strategies.

Driving improvement through data, using assessment information and exam performance to identify trends, address gaps, and inform future planning.

Supporting and mentoring colleagues, including contributing to professional development and leading effective departmental meetings.

Working collaboratively with SLT, other curriculum leads, and external partners to maintain high standards and share good practice.

Contributing to departmental quality assurance, including learning walks, book looks, and appraisal activities as directed.

In addition to your leadership duties, you will deliver high‑quality Business Studies lessons, maintain strong behaviour expectations, and contribute to the wider life of the school.

Teaching & Pastoral Expectations

  • Deliver consistently strong, engaging Business Studies lessons with high expectations for progress.
  • Use effective assessment, marking, and feedback to support student learning.
  • Serve as a form tutor, supporting the wellbeing and personal development of your tutor group.
  • Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and participate in school events, parent meetings, and whole‑school initiatives.

Chiltern Hills Academy is a Church of England, co-educational secondary school in Chesham, Buckinghamshire. There are circa 1025 students on the school roll, approximately 100 of whom study in the sixth form. Chiltern Hills Academy converted to academy status in 2011 and is jointly sponsored by the Diocese of Oxford and Buckinghamshire County Council.
We are situated in the market town of Chesham, Buckinghamshire in the Chiltern Hills, designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Situated close to the M40 and the M25, Chesham is on the end of Metropolitan line of the London Underground and is 28 miles north-west of London. There is ample parking on-site. Renting here is cheaper than in central London and if you enjoy travelling, it takes about 40 minutes by car to Heathrow.
The Elgiva Theatre, Lowndes Park and an open-air heated swimming pool are just some of the many public amenities available in the town. Chesham is renowned for its community spirit and there are many recreational and community groups catering for the diverse and active population.
