Business Support Officer – Attendance

37 hours per week, 39 weeks per year

Grade 4 Point 7 to 12

£26,403 to £28,598 pro rata (£22,709 to £24,597 actual)

King Edward VII School is a vibrant, high‑performing and over‑subscribed school with a diverse and ambitious student community. Spread across two sites in the S10 area, we are proud of our strong reputation, our inclusive ethos and the commitment of our staff team. Colleagues join us because they want to make a difference — and they stay because they feel valued, supported and part of something meaningful.

We offer a comprehensive benefits package including a generous pension, wellbeing support, eye‑care vouchers and access to a full Employee Assistance Programme (EAP).

We are seeking a confident, proactive and highly organised Business Support Officer – Attendance to join our Upper School team. This is a key role at the heart of our pastoral and administrative operations, supporting excellent attendance and ensuring our students are set up to succeed.

If you enjoy working with young people, thrive in a busy environment and take pride in accuracy and efficiency, this role offers variety, purpose and the chance to make a real impact every day.

You will play a central role in managing attendance for Key Stage 4, including:

  • Handling daily absence notes, emails and phone calls
  • Updating SIMS accurately and efficiently
  • Contacting parents and carers regarding student absence
  • Supporting the organisation of lateness, behaviour processes, detentions and isolation registers
  • Ensuring smooth, well‑coordinated administrative systems across the Upper School

This is a role where your organisation, communication and attention to detail will directly support students’ wellbeing and progress.

We’re keen to hear from candidates who are:

  • Dynamic, dedicated and enthusiastic
  • Highly organised, efficient and able to manage competing priorities
  • Confident, professional and calm under pressure
  • Skilled in ICT, particularly Microsoft Excel and the wider Office suite
  • Strong communicators with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Quick to learn new systems (experience with SIMS is helpful but not essential)

Experience working with young people or in a school environment is beneficial, but we welcome applications from candidates with transferable skills and the right mindset.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of children and young people and expect all staff to show this commitment. The successful candidate will be required to complete Disclosure and Barring Service declarations in line with Section 115 of the Police Act 1997. All applicants are required to read the Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy incorporating Self-Harm and Online Safety, this can be found here.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the successful applicant will be required to apply for an enhanced DBS certificate. As the post will involve regulated activity with children, it is a criminal offence to apply for this post if you are included on the children’s barred list held by the DBS.

Amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975 (2013 & 2020) provide that certain spent convictions and cautions are “protected”. These are not subject to the disclosure to employers and cannot be taken into account. Guidance and criteria on the filtering of these cautions and convictions can be found on the ministry of justice website or see here.

Shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide details of all unspent convictions and those that would not be filtered, prior to the date of the interview. You may be asked for further information about your criminal history during the recruitment process. If your application is successful, this self-disclosure information will be checked against information from the Disclosure and Barring Service before your appointment in confirmed. We will perform online searches as part of due diligence for all shortlisted candidates.

Please note: Only applications on the standard Sheffield LA application form will be accepted.

CVs will not be considered
