Cafe Manager job summary

Pebble Brook School is a community special school that believes everyone can succeed. We want our pupils to be safe and happy in school. We want our pupils to be proud of their school and feel respected. We aim to support the development of children (aged 11 - 19) with communication and interaction needs including speech, language and communication needs, autistic spectrum disorder and moderate learning difficulties.

About the role: This role requires a proactive and community-focused individual to manage the day-to-day operations of the community café. The role involves ensuring excellent customer service and high operational standards, while developing the café as a vibrant and inclusive space for the local community. A key focus will be to create meaningful work experience and training opportunities in hospitality and catering for young people, particularly those with additional needs. The successful candidate will also take a lead on sales and marketing initiatives to increase footfall, raise the café’s profile, and enhance community engagement. The post holder will line manage the Deputy Café Manager and provide leadership and support to the wider café team.

Experience of working with children will be desirable. Good communication skills with adults, children and young adults are preferred, as are good literacy and numeracy skills, good written and spoken English and a good working knowledge of ICT to be able to use ICT effectively to support learning.

Pebble Brook School is a secondary Special School for approximately 180 pupils aged 11-19 with a range of additional needs. The school is based on an attractive site in the centre of Aylesbury and maintained by Buckinghamshire Local Authority, however, the café is located off site as part of the local community. Our pupils come from all over the county, some have attended primary special schools whilst others have previously been in mainstream schools across the county.
