Careers Curriculum & Alumni Lead job summary

Job overview

The School

We are a popular, inclusive Church of England secondary school in Lambeth, South London. Ofsted has judged us ‘outstanding’ for the care and welfare of students and ‘good’ overall. We are also recognised as an ‘excellent’ school by SIAMS.

At Saint Gabriel's College, we combine strong behaviour systems with a caring approach and an unwavering commitment to providing a high-quality education for all our students.

We believe in nurturing our students’ ambitions and equipping them with the guidance and support they need to thrive in their futures.

Individual:

As Careers & Alumni Curriculum Lead, you will have a unique opportunity to work with both our current students (aged 11–16) and our alumni, building lasting connections that positively shape the aspirations and career journeys of the next generation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver a careers curriculum that equips students with essential skills for their professional futures. This includes activities, lessons, and experiences that empower students to consider and work towards their career ambitions from an early age.
  • Engage and build relationships with alumni to provide current students with relatable role models and career mentors. Your role will involve fostering an alumni network that actively participates in guiding and inspiring students through workshops, talks, career events, and mentorship opportunities.
  • Collaborate closely with academic staff to weave career-focused content into the broader curriculum, ensuring that students have a clear understanding of potential career paths, what skills are required, and how to access them.
  • Organise career-focused events that bring alumni back to the school to speak to students about their personal career journeys, challenges, and successes. These events could include networking sessions, guest speaker events, and career fairs.
  • Provide one-on-one career guidance to students, offering support with things like CV writing, job search strategies, and exploring potential career pathways. Equip students with the tools and confidence they need to take the next steps in their educational journey.
  • Create an environment where alumni feel welcomed and valued as part of the Saint Gabriel's community, ensuring they are motivated to give back and inspire current students to reach for their career goals.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and the evolving job market to ensure that the careers curriculum is aligned with the latest opportunities and challenges.

Key Requirements:

  • A recognised qualification in Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (such as Level 6 Diploma in Careers Guidance and Development) or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience developing and delivering a careers programme in a secondary school or similar setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and alumni.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to plan and deliver engaging events and workshops.
  • A commitment to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion within the school community.
  • An understanding of the Gatsby Benchmarks and how to embed them effectively in a school setting.
  • A proactive and flexible approach, with a genuine passion for supporting young people’s aspirations and achievements.
