Caretaker job summary

At Aldercar High School, our Caretaker plays a key role in ensuring the school site is safe, secure, clean and welcoming for students, staff and visitors every day.

This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year, offered at Grade 5. It is a varied and hands-on role where no two days are the same.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day security of the premises, carrying out routine site inspections, supporting health and safety compliance, and undertaking minor maintenance and repairs. From preparing rooms for lessons, exams and events, to monitoring heating systems and supporting planned maintenance works, you will help keep the school running smoothly behind the scenes.

You will also provide day-to-day supervision of cleaning operations, ensuring high standards of cleanliness and hygiene are maintained across classrooms, offices and communal areas. Working closely with the Site Manager and wider school team, you will build positive relationships with staff, contractors and community users.

This role would suit someone practical, dependable and well organised, with a strong sense of pride in maintaining high standards and contributing to a safe, supportive learning environment.
