What skills and experience we're looking for
We are looking for a reliable, proactive and practical caretaker who takes pride in maintaining a safe, secure and welcoming school environment.
The successful candidate should have:
Good knowledge of health and safety requirements and statutory compliance within a school or similar setting.
Experience of carrying out routine premises checks, including fire safety, water hygiene, emergency lighting and general site safety checks.
An understanding of safeguarding and the importance of maintaining a secure school site.
Practical maintenance and DIY skills, with the ability to carry out minor repairs and identify when specialist contractors are required.
Experience of monitoring premises, reporting defects and ensuring actions are followed through.
The ability to maintain accurate compliance records, logs and documentation.
Experience of liaising with contractors and overseeing work undertaken on site.
Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise urgent health, safety and premises issues.
A proactive approach to identifying risks and ensuring the school site remains clean, safe and well maintained.
Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with staff, pupils, contractors and visitors.
A willingness to undertake relevant training and keep knowledge of statutory requirements up to date.
Previous experience of working within a school or education setting would be desirable, particularly experience of premises compliance and statutory testing.

Our caretaker will be an important and valued member of the school team, working closely with the Headteacher and other staff.

The role will involve responsibility for the day-to-day security, maintenance and upkeep of the school site, alongside ensuring statutory premises checks and compliance requirements are completed and accurately recorded.
Building positive relationships with our children, families, staff and visitors is an important part of the role.
