Caretaker job summary

We are looking to recruit a committed caretaker to join our school site team, working 36 hours a week working alongside our experienced site manager as part of a site team. The working hours of this role are 06.30am - 2.30pm (early shift) two days per week and 10.30am - 6.00pm (late shift) three days per week, these set days will be discussed at interview. There is also alternative Saturdays required for opening and closing of school letting which is 1 hour in total.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure the premises and grounds are safe, warm, clean and properly maintained.
  • Movement of heavy goods, duties including heavy items, taking delivery and distributing supplies, moving furniture and equipment, movement of school laundry and milk.
  • Promote and protect safeguarding of all pupils, staff and visitors to site and premises.

    Security responsibilities include emergency, security, fire and safety procedures; responsibilities for key holding, locking and unlocking and ensuring locks in good order; setting alarm systems and reporting defects.

    Cleaning responsibilities include cleaning areas of the site when required, supervision, organisation and monitoring of cleaners, ordering cleaning materials, clearing of paths, drains, gullies etc. cleaning of bodily fluids and spillages and salting frozen paths.

    Heating responsibilities include the operation and routine maintenance and cleaning of the heating plant and adjacent areas.

    Maintenance duties include general handyperson repairs to furniture and fabric, reporting when more major repairs are required, directing workmen and contractors.
