Caretaker job summary
Purpose of the Role:
- As part of a small team, to ensure that school facilities are safe, clean and fully operational by performing routine maintenance, repairs and groundskeeping tasks.
- Contribute to the positive experiences for pupils and staff by ensuring that all areas of the school operate smoothly and meet health and safety standards.
- Interact calmly and courteously with pupils, staff and visitors, whilst protecting the dignity and wellbeing of all members of the school.
- Be a valued member of the staff team, and help contribute to a welcoming, cheerful school atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities:
Under the guidance of the Site Manager:
- Routine Maintenance and Repairs: Inspect and maintain school buildings, classrooms and playgrounds. Ensuring learning environments allow pupils to achieve their full potential. Perform minor repairs where possible to plumbing, HVAC, carpentry and painting, while reporting major repair needs to Site Manager.
- Cleaning and Custodial Duties: Maintain hygiene in classrooms, hallways, bathrooms and common areas when and where necessary (contract cleaners are also employed).
- Groundskeeping: Maintain grass areas, playgrounds, parking areas.
- Event Support: Set up and take down furniture and equipment as needed for school events, assemblies and meetings.
- Emergency Response: Be available for, and respond positively to unexpected issues and urgent repairs as needed.
