Caretaker (Live-In) job summary

This is a key role in ensuring the smooth operation, security and upkeep of our school site. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining high standards across the school buildings and grounds while helping to create an environment that supports learning and wellbeing.

Accommodation Requirement

This is a live-in position. The successful applicant will be required to reside in the school's on-site caretaker bungalow as a condition of employment. The accommodation supports the operational and security needs of the school, including providing emergency access to the site when required.

The accommodation comprises:

  • A 3-bedroom bungalow
  • 1 bathroom
  • Private gardens
  • Located within the school grounds
  • Reduced rental cost of 15% of gross salary (approximately £350 per month)

Key Responsibilities

  • General maintenance, including minor repairs, decorating and grounds maintenance.
  • Security duties, including opening and closing the school, monitoring fire safety equipment and responding to alarms or emergencies.
  • Ensuring the site is safe, clean and compliant with health and safety regulations.
  • Coordinating deliveries and supervising cleaning staff.
  • Supporting the overall ethos and aims of the school community.

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience in caretaking, facilities management or a similar role.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills (GCSE English and Maths or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of health and safety practices, including manual handling and COSHH.
  • Willingness and ability to occupy the on-site caretaker bungalow as part of the role.
