Caretaker/Site Manager job summary

Hertford Heath Primary School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, reliable, and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Caretaker. This is a varied and rewarding role, ideal for someone who takes pride in maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carrying out minor day-to-day repairs and general maintenance

  • Performing routine health and safety checks

  • Ensuring the security of the school premises, including buildings and contents, as a key holder

  • Liaising with external companies regarding works/statutory checks being undertaken and ensure works signed off correctly

  • Supporting the cleaning team to uphold high standards of cleanliness

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is energetic, trustworthy, and takes initiative

  • Has a practical, hands-on approach and is confident with DIY tasks

  • Works well independently and as part of a friendly, supportive team

  • Understands the importance of confidentiality in a school setting

This role would suit candidates of any age, including younger applicants or those who are actively retired.

Working Hours:

  • Term time: split shift pattern. Ideally 7:00am-9:30am and 2:30pm-6:00pm but this can be discussed

  • School holidays: flexible hours, with the option to work the 6-hour day in one block

  • This is a 52 week per year contract. Annual leave (25 days plus paid bank holidays) to be taken during school holidays.

  • Ideally, the successful candidate will live locally
