Casual Caretaker - Weekends job summary

Job Overview: Casual Weekend Caretaker (School Site)

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing lettings, welcoming and assisting external groups using the school facilities, and maintaining site security to protect both the school site and users. In addition, the caretaker will carry out basic maintenance and repairs to help keep the school environment safe and well-maintained.

If you are dependable, proactive, and able to work independently with minimal supervision, you will be a valuable addition to our team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing lettings bookings, assisting external users, and ensuring facilities are used appropriately
  • Monitoring and maintaining security of school buildings and grounds during weekend hours
  • Conducting routine checks of the site and reporting any concerns
  • Completing some compliance checks, as directed by the senior caretaker
  • Performing basic maintenance tasks such as minor repairs, plumbing, or electrical work as needed and appropriate
  • Responding promptly and appropriately to any incidents or emergencies
  • Ensuring the site is clean, safe, and welcoming for all users
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory health and safety regulations (COSHH, Fire safety, Legionella, Asbestos, etc.)
  • Reporting issues to the senior caretaker and/or School Business Leader

All site staff form part of the key holder list - to act as first point of contact.

Requirements:

  • Proven trustworthiness and reliability with a strong sense of responsibility
  • Flexibility to work weekends as required
  • Basic maintenance and repair skills, preferably with some experience in a similar role
  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with school staff and external users
  • Understanding of the importance of safeguarding in a school environment is an advantage

The role is casual, with shift times to be agreed on commencement.

The outlined duties are neither exclusive nor exhaustive and the post holder will be required to carry out such other appropriate duties as may be required by the Headteacher, within the grading level of the post and the competence of the post holder.
