What the school offers its staff

Our Staff Approach

Our Trust is people-centred and so recognises that our Human Resources provision must be of a high-quality that befits the individuals who are very much our most important, valued and valuable resources.

Consequently, we are absolutely committed to ensuring that all of our employees in our constituent settings and central team and are happy, cared for, supported and equipped to thrive.

As part of this, we have clear policies and procedures that support our staff and which take on board the highest professional standards and the most up-to-date advice. These are supported by both academy teams, as well as our central Trust professionals, and all issues relating to pay, conditions and personal development are carefully taken care of.

Furthermore, we are committed to doing this in a robust and well-rounded way, taking into account the wide range of factors that impact and influence peoples’ well-being, both in the workplace and in their personal lives.

This is why we ensure that well-being initiatives align with four categories of wellness, thus creating and sustaining a well-rounded, ‘wrap-around’ approach to our well-being provision. These four categories wellness are:

  • Work Benefits
  • Health Benefits
  • Financial Benefits
  • Lifestyle Benefits

All well-being initiatives, whether provided centrally (for all employees) or in our constituent academies (for their particular staff) align with these categories and are used to guide and shape the Primitas approach to the promotion of staff well-being.

The Friary School is part of the Primitas Learning Partnership is a popular and respected Lichfield secondary school which caters for well over a thousand local students and amongst the most over-subscribed school in South Staffordshire.

The school was judged ‘good’ by OFSTED (March 2024) and performs strongly in the national Performance Tables. Indeed, the OFSTED Report was glowing in terms of celebrating extensive changes to school practice and flagged up “a culture of high aspiration” alongside “abundant energy and enthusiasm”, and celebrated that we were a “rapidly improving school” which has an “unwavering commitment to helping all pupils achieve highly”.

Even so, the school is far from settled on ‘good’ and has put an action plan in place designed to propel the school to the ’outstanding’ benchmark and keep it there. This emphasis is not on simply ticking off an OFSTED badge but more importantly delivering an excellent education for the families of Lichfield and the surrounding area.

Elsewhere, there are extensive extra-curricular activities, a busy Saturday School programme, large-scale community work, a buzzing PTFA and a genuine commitment to staff development.

The Friary is a school we are proud of and one that we are committed to making better and better and better.
