Place of work:

Cambourne Village College is looking for additional casual Community & Events Assistants to join our team. We are seeking individuals with a variety of skills and experience, including customer service, reception, event operations and technical event support, to help deliver our busy evening, weekend and holiday programme of community activities, theatre performances and live events.

Successful candidates will join a flexible pool of casual staff, with opportunities to undertake shifts as a Community Assistant, Event Assistant or Event Technician, depending on their skills, experience and availability. Applicants are not expected to have experience in all three areas, and appropriate training will be provided. Suitably experienced candidates may also be considered for additional Duty Event Manager responsibilities.

The post holders will help ensure that visitors and members of the community are welcomed professionally and courteously as they access the College’s facilities for sports, arts, adult education and events. Depending on the role undertaken, duties may include providing reception and customer service support, preparing hired spaces and equipment, assisting with event delivery and front-of-house operations, providing technical support for performances and events, and ensuring facilities are clean, safe and ready for use. Staff may also assist with opening and securing the site where appropriately trained and authorised.

The role may involve a range of clerical and administrative duties, including responding to enquiries from members of the public and referring queries to the Community & Events Coordinator as appropriate. All successful candidates will become part of the operational Community & Events team, providing practical support across our facilities.

Successful candidates will have good interpersonal and communication skills, a professional and approachable manner, and experience in one or more of the following areas: reception, customer service, events, venue operations or technical production. Experience using Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets would be advantageous.

Cambourne Village College, an academy of The Cam Academy Trust, opened in brand new premises in September 2013 with just five forms of Year 7 pupils. Serving one of the fastest-growing communities in the UK, we now have more than 1300 pupils on roll, with major further expansion planned, including the opening of our new sixth form centre in September 2024.

The College has enjoyed remarkable success since opening, gaining an early Ofsted Outstanding rating along with designation as a Leading Edge School. Our pupils achieve excellent results in public examinations via a curriculum designed to offer maximum breadth and opportunity for all abilities. Our extra-curricular offer is also outstanding: annual musical drama performances, termly concerts, a wide range of competitive and recreational sporting activities, and many further clubs and events are on offer. In 2019, we were granted the International School Award by the British Council and are looking forward to re-launching our programme of international visits and exchanges this year.

We strive to be a welcoming and inclusive school for our pupils and also to fulfil our Village College ethos in serving the whole community: we support an active adult education programme and more than 30 local groups and organisations make use of the school’s facilities, out of hours. This unusual commitment to our local community was a key factor in our winning a prestigious Silver Award in the ‘Making a Difference’ category of the Pearson School of the Year celebrations in 2018.
