Catering Supervisor job summary
Acorn Education Trust is looking for a Catering Supervisor to join its dedicated and friendly catering team, based at St Michael’s C of E Primary School and provide a high-quality catering service which supports the well-being of pupils and staff, including meeting school catering and health and safety standards.
Working Hours: Part Time (32.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 39 weeks per year, includes Teacher Training days). Required: ASAP
St Michael’s is an open and inclusive primary school, educating children between the ages of 5 and 11 years. Located in the garrison town of Larkhill, Wiltshire, our setting aims to spark interest, ignite a passion for learning and fire up ambition to inspire every child to recognise and exceed expectations. Our staff provide a challenging, yet nurturing, environment based on our Christian values and we are committed to learning outside the classroom, as much as inside; with regular trips planned and visitors invited in to help make the learning relevant and linked to both our local community and the wider world. In May 2022, we joined Acorn Education Trust, which has provided exciting opportunities to improve local education and draw on collective experience.
Reporting to the Head of Catering, the successful candidate will be highly organised and consistent, with experience working in a similar environment at management level. You will have a good practical aptitude, strong culinary skills and a solid knowledge of culinary production. An understanding of the routines and legislative requirements for working in school/industrial catering is advantageous for the role, as is the ability to observe and implement health and safety regulations.
We are looking for someone who:
- Holds a Level 2 food safety certificate or NVQ equivalent;
- Has a solid understanding of food handling, preparation and hygiene;
- Has strong culinary skills and knowledge in culinary production;
- Has excellent interpersonal and communication skills and is able to work with a variety of pupils and staff;
- Is organised with a practical aptitude;
- Is self-motivated dedicated and consistent;
- Has the ability to deal with new challenging situations;
- Is a strong team player who can use their own initiative;
- Can observe and implement health and safety regulations;
- Can thrive working in a busy environment;
- Has previous experience in a similar role (advantageous);
- Has a positive and flexible attitude.
