Role Title: Chair of Academy Council
Hours: Appx 1-2hrs (averaged out across the year)

Your opportunity to lead and make a difference in education:
We are looking for a Chair of Academy Council at Haywood Village Academy to provide strategic leadership and governance support across one of our academies. This is a rewarding voluntary role where you will influence decisions that shape the future of education and ensure every child has the best possible start in life.
Details about the role:
As Chair of an Academy Council, you will:
- Ensure meetings are run effectively with clear agendas and active participation.
- Hold regular one-to-one meetings with the Principal.
- Lead the Council, providing strategic direction and oversight.
- Attend Chairs’ meetings to share updates and escalate issues to the Board.
- Manage vacancies and support recruitment, ensuring new Councillors receive training and support.
- Chair or participate in panels for exclusions and complaints.
- Make decisions about barring adults from site and ensure these are documented appropriately.

- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- The ability to build relationships and influence at a strategic level.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- Time to attend meetings and engage with academy leadership.

Haywood Village Academy is part of CLF which is a 3-19 organisation with a mix of primary, secondary and an all through academies. It is located in a new and rapidly expanding housing estate, Haywood Village, Weston-super-Mare. The school opened in September in 2016 with 31 Reception children and currently has classes from Pre-school to Year 6. In July 2019, Ofsted graded the school Outstanding. In total the school serves over 450 children. The proportion of children eligible for the pupil premium, which is additional funding for pupils in receipt of supported income, looked-after children and children from service families is below national average at is broadly 24%; the proportion that speak English as an additional language (EAL: Largely either Polish, Lithuanian Bulgarian are predominant languages in the family home) is 15%; the proportion of pupils with SEND is 9%.
