Cardinal Newman School is an 11-19 comprehensive school with Specialist Science Status, serving the Roman Catholic community in Luton and Dunstable. We are one of the most successful schools in Luton and have a thriving 6th form with 300 students. We have been consistently described by Ofsted as a ‘good’ school and under Section 48 as an ‘outstanding Catholic school’.
Cardinal Newman Catholic School has always valued its chaplaincy provision. The current Chaplain has been in post since 2012. Since September 2023, she has also been Trust Leader of Chaplaincy for our St Thomas Catholic Academies Trust 2 days each week; she therefore now works for Cardinal Newman 3 days each week. We also benefit from the support of the clergy from the Luton and Dunstable parishes, each of whom is attached to a year group within the school.
This new role is to recruit a Chaplain to work as part of a team providing full time chaplaincy provision for the school. They will work together to support students, staff and families across our community, providing spiritual and pastoral care as part of the wider staff team. There is some flexibility about how the hours will be worked.
If you have any questions, you are welcome to email our current Chaplain, Jane Porter jporter@cardinalnewmanschool.net
This is a reserved post and it is part of the essential criteria to be a Practising Catholic.
The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers, prohibition order check and the Disclosing & Barring Service.
