Cardinal Newman Catholic School, Luton
Outstanding Catholic Life - Section 48 (June 2022)

Cardinal Newman Catholic School is an outstanding Catholic secondary school serving the communities of Luton and Dunstable, and we are seeking a committed and faith-filled Chaplain to join our vibrant school community.

Our most recent Section 48 inspection (June 2022) described Cardinal Newman as “an exceptional Catholic school with a strong sense of mission which is shared across the whole community.” Inspectors noted that “the Catholic life of the school is of paramount importance and it permeates all aspects of school life,” and that “pupils take a leading role in promoting the distinctive values of the school.”

At the heart of our school is a deeply inclusive, relational Catholic culture. The inspection affirmed that “the care for the most vulnerable members of the community is prioritised and the school is rigorously inclusive,” making this an exceptionally rewarding environment for chaplaincy ministry rooted in dignity, compassion and service.

Cardinal Newman is a high-performing 11-18 school, placed in the top 25% nationally for both GCSE and A Level outcomes, where academic excellence sits alongside strong formation of character, faith and mission. We are the only Catholic secondary school in the Luton and Dunstable area, serving a richly diverse community, with strong and active parish links and close collaboration with clergy and local faith communities.

This role offers a rare opportunity to:

  • Serve in an outstanding Catholic school where faith is lived daily, not added on
  • Work within a tight‑knit, supportive community of staff and students
  • Shape and sustain prayer, liturgy, retreats and pastoral accompaniment across the school
  • Make a profound difference to young people’s lives in a context of joy, challenge and hope

If you feel called to chaplaincy in a school where mission is shared, inclusion is lived, and faith animates every aspect of school life, Cardinal Newman offers an exceptional place to serve and flourish.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers, prohibition order check and the Disclosing & Barring Service.
