What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking for a dedicated and empathetic teacher to join us in a role that balances specialist nurture provision with mainstream foundation teaching. This post is ideal for a practitioner who has a genuine heart for SEND and believes that a calm, consistent environment is the key to unlocking a child’s potential. The role encapsulates our drive for “Excellence for All”.

In the mornings, you will lead The Owl Room, our established nurture provision. You will work alongside our Assistant Headteacher/SENDCo and a team of experienced support staff to provide a highly structured and supportive environment for several key pupils.

In the afternoons, you will transition to a class teacher role within one of our year groups, delivering the foundation curriculum.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have proven expertise in SEND and a deep understanding of pupil behaviour.
  • Understands neurodiverse conditions, as well as attachment and the impact of ACE’s.
  • Be a champion of relational practice, in line with our school-wide commitment to the'When the Adults Change'philosophy.
  • Possess the communication skills required to build strong, authentic bonds with pupils and their families.
  • Be an excellent communicator who can lead a small team of support staff with clarity and kindness.

What the school offers its staff

Mortimer Primary is an OFSTED Good school from January 2024.You will be joining a supportive staff where SEND is a core priority. While this is a one-year temporary post, the impact you have in The Owl Room will be lasting. Senior leaders believe fully in the provision and insuring we remain inclusive. The role will be reviewed for 2027 based on our evolving cohort and budget.

Morning Provision: The Owl Room

  • Establishing Routines:Creating a predictable, safe space where pupils feel secure.
  • Navigating Social Learning:Helping pupils develop the tools to work with others and manage social interactions.
  • Progressive Education:Ensuring that, despite their challenges, every child makes meaningful academic progress tailored to their needs.
  • Collaboration:Working as part of a tight-knit team to ensure the provision is calm, purposeful, and effective.
  • Regulation:Helping pupils to understand their emotions and co-regulate.

Afternoon Provision: Class Teaching

In the afternoons, you will transition to a class teacher role within one of our year groups, delivering the foundation curriculum.

  • Collaborative Planning:You will work as part of a three-teacher year group team, sharing planning and resources.
  • Building Partnerships:You will be a key point of contact for parents, building the trust and relationships necessary for children to thrive both at home and at school.
  • Modelling:You will model good practice and an inclusive approach.
