What skills and experience we're looking for

  • A clear understanding of the needs of pupils with autism
  • Evidence of successful class teaching for pupils with SEN
  • An ability to plan and implement good classroom practice and management
  • An ability to develop a specific curriculum area according to the needs of the school
  • Effective behaviour support skills
  • The ability to manage a class team and to direct support staff
  • The ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team (i.e. with members of the Health or Social Services team and other educational professionals)
  • The ability to communicate clearly and effectively to students for whom communication is a major barrier to learning
  • The ability to communicate effectively in writing
  • A commitment to working in partnership with parents
  • An understanding of and a commitment to Equal Opportunities
  • Evidence of good / outstanding teaching.

What the school offers its staff

Spa Camberwell opened in September 2020 and caters for pupils aged 5 – 16. It is already a wonderful school with a friendly ethos, a great environment, and a high quality of teaching and learning. You will access excellent training and professional development and will have the chance to shape the future development of your school. Special school teaching experience is preferred.


Spa Bermondsey is an established special school with an excellent reputation. It caters for pupils aged 11 – 19 and was graded Outstanding at its last Ofsted inspection. You do not need to have taught in a special school before as we offer great training and support. Mainstream primary teachers are encouraged to apply.
