What skills and experience we're looking for
Truro and Penwith Academy Trust, together with the Local Monitoring Committee of Goonhavern Primary School, are seeking to appoint a skilled, enthusiastic and reflective Upper Key Stage 2 teacher to join our one-form-entry village school.
Goonhavern Primary is a welcoming, inclusive school at the heart of a supportive community. Our children are curious, caring and keen to do well, and they benefit from spacious grounds, purposeful classrooms and a committed staff team who work together with a shared sense of pride and ambition for every pupil.
We are looking for a teacher who builds strong, respectful relationships and who combines warmth with clear expectations. The successful candidate will create a calm, purposeful learning environment where pupils are motivated to work hard, take responsibility for their learning and strive for their very best. In Upper Key Stage 2, this includes a secure focus on strong progress, high-quality teaching and effective preparation for the next stage of education.
We value teachers who care deeply about children as individuals, while also having a sharp focus on standards, consistency and high-quality outcomes. You will be well supported by a collaborative team who believe that high expectations and kindness go hand in hand, and who are committed to providing rich, memorable learning experiences that build confidence, resilience and independence.
This role offers a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference for our pupils, to contribute to a dedicated and supportive staff team, and to work in a school where ambition, care and community are central to everything we do.
About You:
You will be a warm, confident and reflective teacher who places positive relationships at the heart of your practice. You understand that strong, consistent routines and clear expectations are key to creating a calm, purposeful learning environment where children feel safe, valued and ready to challenge themselves.
You will bring a collaborative and solution-focused approach, working effectively with colleagues, families and pupils to support every child to succeed. You will model high expectations for behaviour, learning and presentation, balancing ambition with kindness, empathy and encouragement.
You will value academic rigour alongside rich and engaging learning experiences, recognising the importance of building curiosity, independence and resilience — particularly as pupils prepare for the next stage of their education. You will inspire children to take pride in their work, their achievements and their contribution to school life.
You will quickly become an active member of our school community, communicating openly, celebrating successes and contributing positively to ongoing reflection and improvement. Above all, you will believe wholeheartedly in the potential of every child and be committed to helping them feel confident, motivated and proud of who they are and what they can achieve.
