What skills and experience we're looking for

Experience

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Proven experience teaching within Key Stage 2, with strong knowledge of the national curriculum.
  • Experience planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons that meet the needs of all learners.
  • Track record of raising attainment and accelerating pupil progress.
  • Experience assessing, tracking, and reporting on pupil achievement effectively.
  • Experience managing classroom behaviour positively and creating a safe learning environment.
  • Experience working collaboratively with colleagues, teaching assistants, and parents/carers.
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND, EAL, or additional learning needs.
  • Involvement in extracurricular activities, school events, or wider school life.
  • Experience using educational technology to enhance teaching and learning.

Skills

  • Excellent classroom teaching practice with the ability to inspire and motivate pupils.
  • Strong subject knowledge across English, Maths, Science, and the wider KS2 curriculum.
  • Effective lesson planning, organisation, and time management skills.
  • Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to differentiate teaching to support varying abilities and learning styles.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong assessment skills with the ability to use data to inform teaching.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and contribute positively to school improvement.
  • Creativity, enthusiasm, and a passion for primary education.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, equality, inclusion, and pupil wellbeing.
  • Adaptability, resilience, and a proactive attitude.

Burton on-the-Wolds is a very special place to work and learn. We have 215 children on roll who are taught in single age group classes. We are situated in the small village of Burton-on-the-Wolds near to Loughborough, Leicestershire. The school has extensive grounds and we have access to the village plantation for our Forest Schools sessions. We work closely with 13 other schools in the local area (Charnwood and Coalville Primary Partnership) to provide wider opportunities for our children and to improve teaching and learning in our schools. Our school was judged as 'Good' with Outstanding for Personal Development, in 2025 by Ofsted and we continue to develop our inspiration curriculum offer to ensure that we meet our aims of "Inspire, Nurture, Flourish".
