Class Teacher | Fonthill Primary Academy | Bristol
Are you a passionate, ambitious teacher who believes that every child deserves an excellent education, unconditional care and high expectations?
At Fonthill Primary Academy, we are looking for a skilled and committed Class Teacher to join our warm, inclusive and forward‑thinking school community from September 2026.
Why Fonthill?
Fonthill is a one‑form‑entry primary school in Southmead, Bristol, proud of its strong sense of community, supportive culture and clear moral purpose. Since achieving a Good Ofsted judgement in 2022, we have continued to build a school known for its warmth, ambition and relentless focus on learning.
Our vision sits at the heart of everything we do:
- We are bold in our intentions and take action.
- We are strong.
- We are life‑long learners and take pride in our achievements.
- We courageously advocate and care unconditionally.
- We celebrate the unique individual and our place in the wider world.
- We lay the foundations of success for all.
This is not just words on a page — it is how we teach, lead and work together every day.
About the role
As our Class Teacher, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils through their final year of primary school — academically, emotionally and socially — ensuring they leave us confident, capable and ready for the next stage of their journey.
You will:
- Deliver high‑quality, engaging teaching rooted in strong subject knowledge
- Support pupils to meet end‑of‑key‑stage expectations while nurturing confidence and independence
- Create a calm, purposeful classroom where children feel safe, challenged and motivated
- Work closely with colleagues and families, believing wholeheartedly that every child can flourish
There may also be opportunities for subject leadership, depending on experience.
Our curriculum & approach
We are a committed CUSP school, delivering a knowledge‑rich, carefully sequenced curriculum that values every subject and brings genuine joy to learning. We place strong emphasis on:
- Early reading and phonics
- Oracy and high‑quality talk
- Equity of opportunity and experience
- Preparing children for life beyond primary school
This is underpinned by our Learning Gems, which explicitly develop learning behaviours such as resilience, independence, collaboration and perseverance.
A place where staff thrive
Fonthill is a school where people matter. You’ll be joining:
- A friendly, experienced and supportive staff team
- A school that is research‑led and focused on sustainable improvement
- A Trust that invests in high‑quality professional development, collaboration and career progression
Our environment is vibrant and well‑resourced, with extensive outdoor spaces, Forest School provision, a well‑equipped library, ELSA and inclusion spaces — all supporting our strong pastoral offer.
Who we’re looking for
You will be someone who:
- Has high expectations of pupils and yourself
- Is committed to inclusive practice and safeguarding
- Brings energy, warmth and professionalism to your classroom
- Enjoys working as part of a team and contributing to the wider life of the school
- Shares our belief in achievement for all
Experience of teaching in Year 6 and/or KS2 is important, and we welcome applicants who are reflective, values‑driven and keen to grow.
Come and see us
We warmly encourage visits — there is no substitute for seeing Fonthill in action and meeting our children and staff.
To arrange a visit or an informal conversation with the Co‑Headteachers, please contact Penny Gowie, Assistant Business Manager, on 0117 377 2550 or email office@fonthill.tila.school.
We offer:
- Enhanced CPD, including access to professional networks across the Trust
- Paid induction and training suited to the role
- Confidential access to an Employee Assistance Programme
- Free parking
- Use of the Cycle Scheme
- Paid completion of a DBS check
- Flu vaccination vouchers
- Free eye tests (where the employee is desk-based)
- Where eligible, automatic enrolment to the relevant pension scheme
- Honouring of continuous service earned in the Local Authority
Fluency Duty
This role has been identified as falling within the definition of requiring fluency in spoken English. You will be required to speak English with confidence and be able to conduct a conversation and answer questions for extended periods of time.
