We are looking to appoint a skilled and reflective teacher with experience or a strong interest in Special Educational Needs, particularly autism, to join our integrated resource provision within a primary school setting.

This role requires a genuine love of teaching, alongside a commitment to understanding and supporting pupils with autism. The successful candidate will demonstrate drive, enthusiasm and resilience, and will be motivated to continually develop their practice as part of a supportive and collaborative team.

We are seeking an individual with a positive outlook, a proactive approach and a proven track record of high-quality teaching. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering highly personalised learning opportunities for pupils with autism, all of whom will have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). This includes delivering our Pathways Curriculum as outlined below to meet a range of communication, sensory and social interaction needs.

Experience within Early Years and/or Key Stage 1, or a strong understanding of early development in communication, language, phonics, early reading, writing and number, is desirable, as these underpin learning across the provision.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate experience of, or a strong commitment to developing expertise in, working with pupils with autism and associated needs, including communication and interaction difficulties, sensory processing needs and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.

An outline of the curriculum we use in our Integrated Resource:

There are three learning pathways: Explore, Discover and Connect. These pathways are not always linear and a child may take different routes at different stages of their development, according to their needs and abilities.

  • Explore pathway (pre-formal) is for learners who are working below the level of the national curriculum and not engaged in subject-specific study. Learners following this pathway are assessed using the Engagement Model and Development Matters framework. Their assessments are recorded using Evidence for Learning. Their learning is delivered through a highly bespoke, personalised timetable in a specialised environment.

  • Discover pathway (semi-formal) is for learners who are mostly working below National Curriculum level but with some subject-specific studies at their age-related standard. These learners are assessed through Development Matters or National Curriculum levels using the Birmingham Toolkit assessment framework. Their assessments are recorded using Evidence for Learning. Their learning is delivered through a personalised timetable in both a specialised environment and in a more traditional classroom setting, as appropriate.

  • Connect pathway (formal) is for learners who are working within National Curriculum levels and are accessing most or all of their learning in a traditional classroom environment. Learners on the Connect pathway may need access to specialised environments to help with regulation for periods throughout the day. They are assessed using Birmingham Toolkit or standard age-related assessment materials.

Have experience of SEND or a strong interest in SEND
Understanding of the curriculum and assessment of pupil progress
Understanding of inclusion and strategies for engaging all learners
Able to use a positive approach to promote learning and excellent behaviours
