About the Role

Are you a passionate teacher who wants children to feel confident to ask questions, embrace challenge and learn from their mistakes?

At Hook Lane Primary School, our ambition is to Encourage Fearless Learners - children who are curious, resilient and excited about learning. We're looking for an enthusiastic Class Teacher to join our team and help us make that ambition a reality every day.

Whatever stage you're at in your teaching career, there's an opportunity to grow and make an impact at Hook Lane. You might be an Early Career Teacher looking for the right place to begin, an established teacher ready for a fresh challenge, or an experienced UPS practitioner looking for a school where your expertise is valued and you can influence practice, support others and continue developing your own career.

As a Class Teacher at Hook Lane, you'll create exciting, ambitious learning experiences that build children's knowledge, confidence and independence. You'll know your pupils well, respond to their individual needs and create a classroom where every child feels safe to participate, contribute and succeed.

In this role, you will:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive and ambitious learning

  • Build positive relationships that help children feel confident and ready to learn

  • Use assessment effectively to understand pupils' needs and support strong progress

  • Create a classroom culture where curiosity, challenge and learning from mistakes are encouraged

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure every child can participate and achieve

  • Share your knowledge, ideas and expertise as part of a professional learning culture

  • Contribute to the wider life and continued development of Hook Lane

Who You Are

We're looking for someone who:

  • Holds, or will hold, Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Has high expectations for every child and believes in their potential

  • Creates engaging learning experiences that inspire curiosity

  • Builds warm, positive relationships with pupils, colleagues and families

  • Is reflective, adaptable and committed to continuing to develop their practice

  • Values inclusion and understands that every child learns differently

  • Enjoys collaborating, sharing expertise and learning from others

  • Wants to make a wider contribution to the school and its development

For experienced teachers, we'd particularly welcome the expertise, ideas and perspective you can bring to our professional community. There will be opportunities to share practice, support colleagues and contribute to areas of school development, while continuing to develop your own professional interests and aspirations.

Most importantly, you'll share our belief in Encouraging Fearless Learners - and be prepared to keep learning alongside them.

What We Offer

Our high challenge, low threat culture applies to adults as much as it does to children. We want our teachers to feel supported, trusted and confident to reflect, share their expertise, try new approaches and continue developing their practice.

At Hook Lane, you can expect:

  • A welcoming and collaborative school community

  • A culture where professional curiosity, expertise and sharing practice are valued

  • Support tailored to your career stage, whether you're an ECT, established teacher or experienced UPS practitioner

  • Opportunities to contribute beyond your classroom and influence wider school development

  • High-quality CPD and professional development through Hook Lane and Maritime Academy Trust

  • Career development opportunities across our wider family of schools

  • Teachers' Pension Scheme and national terms and conditions

  • Enhanced family-friendly policies, including enhanced maternity and paternity provision

  • A comprehensive wellbeing offer, including our Employee Assistance Programme, Mental Health First Aiders and Occupational Health support

  • Lifestyle and financial wellbeing benefits, including Cycle to Work, Blue Light Card, eye care vouchers and access to employee discounts

Hook Lane Primary School is part of the Maritime Multi-Academy Trust, an innovative partnership of schools in Greenwich and Kent. Our schools transform through collaboration and an entrepreneurial curriculum which equips children with life skills.

Hook Lane is an all-inclusive 2 form entry community school with a Nursery and a 14 place Resource Provision for pupils with Autistic Spectrum Disorder. As a school we celebrate difference and diversity both through our ethos and our curriculum.

Our school motto of “Encouraging Fearless Learners” is at the heart of everything we do and we actively encourage our children to be independent and take risks in their learning. We very much value that our children experience enrichment through our educational visits and wider curriculum. At Hook Lane we recognise the important contributions that our parents and carers can make to their children’s education and regularly host workshops, big outcomes and performances to engage them and involve them in the learning taking place.

The Hook Lane staff team work collaboratively and have high expectations of our children to ensure they make the best possible progress during their time with us. We recognise that children deserve the opportunity to excel across the curriculum and pride ourselves on providing for ambitious standards in the humanities, arts and PE as well as in English and Maths. We measure success by understanding children’s individual progress and attainment and know that this can look different for each child.

As a community school we are keen to ensure children see the importance of growing into good citizens for the future and understand the important contribution they can make. To this end we work hard to build good relations with our local community through charity fund raising and visiting local businesses, localities and places of interest.
