What skills and experience we're looking for

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a relevant teaching degree.
  • Proven experience teaching at the primary level, ideally with Year 6.
  • Strong understanding of the Year 6 curriculum and assessment frameworks.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students to achieve their best.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and the ethos of the school.

  • Teaching experience within a school setting.
  • An understanding of the KS2 curriculum, particularly Year 6 SATs preparation.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated ECT to join our Year 6 team at St Stephens (Saltash) C P School. This is an exciting role, helping to guide our Year 6 pupils through a crucial academic transition. With a forward-thinking curriculum and supportive network, our school values strong relationships and prepares pupils for the challenges ahead, blending confidence-building with academic excellence.

This is a fantastic opportunity to complete your induction within a well-supported and experienced team. We can offer collaboration, ongoing professional development and a range of resources to help you thrive.

This advert will close at Midday on Monday 30th June. If you are shortlisted, you will be contacted by the end of that day. Interviews are scheduled for Wednesday 2nd July. As part of the interview procedures, you will be asked to teach a 30 minute Maths or English lesson to a Year 5 cohort.

St Stephens Community Primary School is in Saltash, ‘The Gateway to Cornwall’. We are a non-religious school with a clear set of values: creativity, aspiration, enjoyment, collaboration, trust and kindness. We are in a fantastic location with beautiful beaches, moorland, theatre, shopping, history and the arts on our doorstep as well as the school itself having amazing grounds, including a forest school, a covered MUGA, several play areas and a huge school field.

At present we have 361 pupils on roll and an oversubscribed teacher-led school nursery with another 60 children. Our children have a range of needs with approximately 25% SEND. For our highest needs learners in FS and KS1 we are developing a small SEN support class for up to 10 pupils.
