What skills and experience we're looking for
Following the significant expansion of our provision across 2 sites in the north and south of Liverpool, Millstead School will be able to transform the lives of more children who have severe learning difficulties, profound & multiple learning difficulties or complex autism.
The governors and headteacher of our OUTSTANDING school (Ofsted January 2024) are looking to appoint a number of talented teachers who are aspirational for themselves and the children they support. Experience of working with children and young people who have severe learning difficulties and/or complex autism is an essential requirement.
About our school:
At Millstead School, we aim to provide a world-class education for all pupils which transforms their lives and the lives of their families. We have 263 pupils on roll aged 2 – 11 years, based in the Everton and Naylorsfield areas of the city. All pupils have an education, health and care plan (EHCP) which recognises their severe and complex needs.
Our “extraordinary and ambitious” curriculum follows 3 distinct learning pathways:
Ø Cohort 1: Pre-Formal learners with complex autism or profound & multiple learning difficulties. These pupils are below Pre-Key Stage Standards and are working within the Engagement Model;
Ø Cohort 2: Pre-Formal learners who are in the Early Years. These pupils are also below Pre-Key Stage Standards and are working within the Engagement Model. For many of these children, joining the Millstead family will be their first experience of an educational setting;
Ø Cohort 3: Semi-Formal learners in Key Stage 1 and 2. These pupils are working within Pre-Key Stage Standard in English and Maths.
About the role:
We are seeking to recruit excellent practitioners with a sound knowledge and understanding of severe learning difficulties and early childhood development who want to make a positive difference to the lives of children and their families. Teachers should be dynamic in their approach to making learning fun and accessible for all pupils.
The successful candidates will work with a talented and friendly staff team who are both forward thinking and innovative, and who have high expectations of themselves and the pupils they support.
Amongst other things teachers must: - Be a positive role model and lead by example - Have high aspirations and a commitment to excellence for all - Be reliable and self-reliant - Be committed to working with pupils, parents and staff to raise standards - Have resilience.
At Millstead School no two days are ever the same. Some days are challenging, most days are fun, and every day is rewarding.
