Class Teacher – Person Specification
Essential experience and characteristics:
The school is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and creative Teacher to join our excellent staff team.
All staff are expected to follow the school’s child protection procedures and take all appropriate steps to promote children’s well-being and self-esteem.
All staff are expected to follow the school’s data protection procedures and take all appropriate steps to safeguard children’s personal information.
All staff are expected to be committed to continuous professional development and applying a reflective approach to their practice.
We require the candidate to have excellent literacy and numeracy skills, be proficient in the use of ICT and to have experience of teaching the current Primary National Curriculum. Examples of your commitment to active and creative teaching and learning will be discussed at interview.
The candidate must be able to demonstrate the ability and willingness to work with children of all abilities and needs, leading reasonable adaptations for any pupils requiring them.
We shall look for evidence of excellent working relationships with children, staff, parents and governors. The ability to work collaboratively and be flexible is expected. Previous examples of successful teamwork will be discussed.
The school and village community is very closely-knit. This is reflected in the school’s ethos and there is an expectation that all staff will contribute to the wider life of the school through promoting our community-focused approach.
Desirable knowledge and skills
- Transferable skills that provide specialist support to one or more curriculum areas.
- Prepared to be involved in the community life of the school e.g. PTA events.
- Experience in leading specific subject areas (for example, Humanities).

Hauxton Primary School
Hauxton is a pleasant village located just south of Cambridge, well placed for access to the M11. The school’s catchment area is the village of Hauxton, although the school welcomes pupils from beyond our catchment.
There are currently 50 pupils on roll grouped in 3 classes.
The Reception class admits children in the September of the year in which they are 5. At the age of 11 the children transfer to secondary school, with around 80% of pupils transferring to Sawston Village College.
The Governors employ 5.1 (FTE) teachers including the Interim Executive Headteacher and an Assistant Headteacher who is also the SENDCo. We have a wonderful group of Teaching Assistants, who support in 1:1 and general roles. Our teaching assistants form the lunchtime team, ensuring very good continuity of care and provision at lunchtime. In addition, there are 2 kitchen staff (HCL) and a caretaker.
The school takes great pride in providing a friendly and caring environment for all our staff and pupils. We are fortunate in receiving considerable support from parents at all stages of their children’s time here. We offer a stimulating and challenging curriculum with every opportunity for individuals to excel in all fields and all classes and cater for a broad range of ability. The curriculum is organised via creative topics, which is furthered by a wide variety of extra-curricular activities. These are organised by our own staff, external providers and members of the local community and include our very popular sports teams, French club, art Club, music tuition, gardening club and many other clubs. We also have a successful breakfast club and after school club on site.
The school has an excellent staff team with a good range of expertise. They support each other well and comment that Hauxton Primary School is a great place to work. The school has successfully supported a many NQTs / ECTs who have started their careers here.
