What skills and experience we're looking for

As a Class Teacher, you will be expected to take a creative approach to teaching pupils according to their educational needs, ensuring delivery of the school curriculum in a way that maximises pupil’s achievement and ability to develop.

This is a great opportunity for a Class Teacher who wants to spend time developing creative learning opportunities for pupils with varied and complex needs. Your work will be challenging and rewarding in equal measure, and you will be working in a school where we maintain a strong safeguarding culture, where pupils are listened to, respected and involved in as many decisions as possible.

When it comes to looking after our pupils, we never settle for second best. We are looking for a Class Teacher who shares our vision to build incredible futures by empowering vulnerable young people, to be happy and to make their way in the world.

Whilst previous experience of working in a SEND environment would be desirable, excellent teaching skills and the right motivation, personal qualities and levels of resilience are just as important.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, positive, reliable and hard working class teacher who has an excellent knowledge of the primary curriculum. A good understanding of special needs is desirable. High energy levels are essential.

The successful candidate must have very good interpersonal skills as the role involves managing, leading and motivating a class team which includes three or four Special Support Assistants (SSAs) and a Midday Assistant (MDA).

What the school offers its staff

Kingsdown is an exciting, vibrant and over subscribed Special School for pupils aged between 3 - 14 years with severe or profound and multiple learning difficulties, and associated physical difficulties. The majority of our pupils also have communication difficulties. Our Mission Statement is 'Be happy, communicate, learn and achieve.' Kingsdown was inspected by Ofsted in March 2022 and was 'good' and considered to be possibly outstanding so will be re-visited soon.

Kingsdown School is part of the SEN Trust Southend, Multi-Academy Trust, a partnership of the four special schools in Southend-on-Sea, who work very closely together to meet the diverse needs of pupils from across Southend and some areas of surrounding Essex.
