Class Teacher – Key Stage 1 and Foundation Stage Pay Scale: M3 (Main Pay Scale) Contract: Part‑time, 3 days per week (0.6 FTE)

Purpose of the Role

To deliver high‑quality teaching and learning to pupils in Key Stage 1 and the Foundation Stage, ensuring all children make good progress academically, socially and emotionally, in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework and National Curriculum.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Plan, prepare and deliver engaging, age‑appropriate lessons aligned with the EYFS Framework and KS1 National Curriculum
  • Create a positive, inclusive and stimulating learning environment
  • Set high expectations that support pupil achievement and positive behaviour
  • Use effective assessment strategies to inform planning and next steps in learning
  • Adapt teaching to meet the needs of all learners, including SEND, EAL and disadvantaged pupils

Assessment and Progress

  • Assess, record and report on pupils’ attainment and progress in line with school policy
  • Contribute to Early Years and KS1 statutory assessments where required
  • Provide constructive feedback to pupils to support learning and development

Safeguarding and Pastoral Care

  • Maintain responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of all pupils
  • Build strong, supportive relationships with children
  • Promote positive behaviour in line with school behaviour policies
  • Actively support pupils’ personal, social and emotional development

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work effectively with teaching assistants and support staff
  • Liaise with parents and carers regarding pupil progress and wellbeing
  • Contribute to staff meetings, training and professional development
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure continuity of provision across the phase

Professional Responsibilities

  • Uphold the Teachers’ Standards at all times
  • Engage in professional development and performance management
  • Comply with school policies, procedures and safeguarding requirements
  • Contribute positively to the wider life of the school

Person Specification

Essential

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience or strong knowledge of EYFS and/or KS1
  • Understanding of child development and early learning principles
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Commitment to inclusive practice and safeguarding

Desirable

  • Experience teaching in both Foundation Stage and KS1
  • Experience working in a part‑time or job‑share role
  • Knowledge of phonics teaching (e.g. Read Write Inc)
