What skills and experience we're looking for

Trewirgie Infant School is seeking an enthusiastic, reflective and child‑centred KS1 Teacher to join our dedicated and forward‑thinking Progress KS1 Team. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a collaborative, nurturing infant school community, teaching in either Year 1 or Year 2, depending on the strengths of the successful candidate.

We are a school where children’s curiosity, independence and wellbeing sit at the heart of everything we do. We are looking for a teacher who shares our belief that every child can thrive when they feel valued, supported and challenged.

About the Role

As a KS1 Teacher at Trewirgie Infant School, you will:

Teach a class in Year 1 or Year 2, depending on experience and suitability.

Work closely with colleagues in our KS1 Team, contributing to shared planning, assessment and curriculum development.

Deliver high‑quality, engaging lessons that build on children’s early learning foundations and support smooth progression from EYFS into KS1.

Use assessment effectively to identify next steps, track progress and ensure all children make strong, sustained progress.

Apply WalkThrus strategies to support consistent, evidence‑informed teaching and learning across the phase.

Create a warm, inclusive classroom environment where children feel safe, confident and excited to learn.

Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, SEN staff and wider colleagues to meet the needs of all learners.

Build positive relationships with parents and carers, communicating clearly and regularly about children’s learning and wellbeing.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking a teacher who:

Has a strong understanding of KS1 pedagogy, including phonics, early reading, early writing, and mastery approaches in maths.

Demonstrates a secure knowledge of foundation skills, ensuring children develop the essential building blocks needed for future learning.

Has experience using WalkThrus to support instructional routines, behaviour expectations and high‑quality teaching practice.

Brings a clear drive to raise standards for all children, with high expectations for progress, behaviour and engagement.

Understands the importance of continuous provision and play‑based learning, particularly in Year 1.

Can adapt teaching to meet a wide range of needs, including SEND, EAL and varying levels of prior attainment.

Uses assessment tools confidently (e.g., phonics screening, KS1 moderation expectations).

Values teamwork and enjoys working collaboratively to develop shared planning and consistent practice.

Has excellent communication skills and a warm, nurturing approach to building relationships with young children.

Is committed to safeguarding, inclusion and the wellbeing of every child.

We Can Offer You

A welcoming, supportive staff team who work collaboratively and celebrate each other’s strengths.

Children who are enthusiastic, curious and eager to learn.

An experienced team where CPD lies at the heart of our staff development, ensuring you are supported to grow, reflect and refine your practice.

A school that invests in professional development and encourages reflective practice.

A positive, nurturing environment where wellbeing is prioritised for both staff and pupils.

Opportunities to contribute to whole‑school development and shape the future of our KS1 provision
