What skills and experience we're looking for
The pupils, staff and board of trustees are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, creative and inspiring teacher who has a commitment to raising standards to join our outstanding teaching team.
We are looking for individuals who:
- Are passionate about children’s learning
- Have high expectations
- Have very good classroom organisation and behaviour management skills
- Are adaptable and reflective practitioners who have experience of teaching within Key Stage 2 and have a proven ability to have an impact on pupil progress and raising attainment
- Have a clear understanding of the needs of all pupils
- Be able to work as part of the school’s dedicated and effective team

Abbey Infants and Junior schools are located on the same large site in the heart of Darlington. The infant and junior schools federated in 2007, sharing a leadership team and local governing body, before joining Melrose Learning Trust in February 2024.

We are very proud that both Abbey Infants (November 2022) andAbbey Juniors (June 2023) have both been judged by Ofsted as ‘Good’ schools. Inspectors identified that the curriculum is ‘broad, well-organised and ambitious’ and led by ‘passionate subject leaders’. Inspectors also highlighted that although the infant and junior schools are in separate buildings, ‘older pupils act as role models, supporting younger pupils in their play at lunchtime’.
