Key tasks

General

  • Have a clear understanding of the vision of the school.
  • Promote and support the Christian ethos and values of the school.
  • Promote the safety and wellbeing of pupils.
  • Comply with the school’s safeguarding procedures and ensure that any concerns relating to the safety or welfare of children are reported immediately to the designated safeguarding lead or the deputy designated safeguarding lead.
  • Maintain good relationships with pupils, treating them with dignity, building relationships rooted in mutual respect.
  • Consistently act in a calm, respectful and supportive manner towards colleagues, parents, visitors, local advisors and members of the local community.
  • Develop effective professional relationships with colleagues, showing a willingness to draw on and offer advice and support.
  • Follow the school’s policies and procedures, ensuring consistency and a commitment to the school’s strategic plan, contributing towards the goals and targets.

Teaching and Classroom Management

  • Create a safe and stimulating learning environment that supports learning and in which pupils feel secure and confident.
  • Plan work in accordance with EYFS/ National Curriculum schemes of work and programmes of study.
  • Plan and teach well-structured lessons, following the school curriculum.
  • Assess, monitor, record and report on the learning needs, progress and achievements of assigned pupils, making accurate and productive use of assessment.
  • Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of pupils.
  • Plan lessons carefully with regard to the safety and well-being of pupils.
  • Set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge all pupils.
  • Promote good progress and outcomes by all pupils.
  • Implement statutory tests ensuring the DfE requirements are fully met.
  • Work in partnership with other staff ensuring equality of opportunity for all children.
  • Keep up-to-date with current pedagogy, research-informed practice and statutory government requirements.
  • Plan effectively to meet the needs of pupils with additional needs, and in collaboration with the SENDCo, prepare, implement, monitor and review My Plans, My Plan+ and EHCPs.
  • Ensure the good behaviour of all children in the teacher's care, and to develop within them positive attitudes towards adults, peers, property and work. Deal with any inappropriate behaviour in the context of the school behaviour policy and anti-bullying policy.
  • Maintain an orderly and purposeful atmosphere in the classroom and around the school and to check the attendance and punctuality of pupils.
  • Record and monitor pupil progress in line with the school assessment policy and report to parents.
  • Give pupils regular feedback and encourage pupils to respond to the feedback.
  • Attend the appropriate parents’ evenings to keep parents informed as to the progress of their child.
  • Evaluate own teaching to improve its effectiveness.

Wider Professional Effectiveness

  • Work effectively as a member of the school team, establishing and maintaining good relationships with colleagues, parents, pupils and local advisors.
  • Deploy support staff and other adults effectively, involving them where appropriate with the planning and management of pupils’ learning.
  • Communicate in a timely and appropriate fashion with parents, as and when necessary.
  • Undertake supervisory duties in accordance with school rotas, and to implement any rules of conduct or behaviour as prescribed in the staff handbook and school policies.
  • Escort the class to daily collective worship and play an active part. In accordance with the school rota, play a part in leading some times of collective worship.
  • Set a good example to the pupils through one’s presentation and personal conduct.
  • Take responsibility for one’s own professional development including performance management procedures as well as responding to advice and feedback from colleagues.
  • Attend staff meetings, inset days, briefings, training in and out of school and parent consultations as directed by the leadership team.
  • Lead one or more curriculum subject (not for ECTs) across the school.
  • Play a full role in the life of the school community and where possible, support occasions such as the summer fayre, PTA fund-raising events and parental curriculum evenings.
  • Collaborate and work with colleagues and other relevant professionals within and beyond the Primary Quest MAT.

The duties and responsibilities of the post are subject to those detailed in the National Statement of Conditions of Employment and will count as directed time as detailed in that statement and as defined by the head teacher.
