Classroom Teacher (Y6) job summary
This role supports high-quality learning for a class of primary-aged pupils. The postholder plans and delivers lessons that build on prior learning, motivate pupils, and develop their knowledge, skills, and understanding. The role ensures pupils access a positive, well-organised learning environment that enables good progress for children of all abilities.
The role contributes to whole-school development by working with colleagues to plan, coordinate curriculum activities, and support wider school events. It also involves building constructive relationships with parents and carers to support learning and engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Teach all areas of the primary curriculum to support progress for pupils of different abilities.
- Plan, prepare and present lessons that motivate pupils and support their academic and social development.
- Organise the classroom and learning resources to create a positive learning environment.
Assessment and Progress
- Assess, record and report on pupil development in line with school requirements.
- Prepare pupils for national tests, ensuring links to prior learning are clear and meaningful.
- Provide feedback to parents and carers about pupil progress, including parents’ evenings and meetings.
Collaboration and Professional Practice
- Work with colleagues to plan and coordinate curriculum areas and school activities.
- Liaise with wider professionals, including educational welfare officers and psychologists where required.
- Keep up to date with curriculum developments and contribute to school events, outings and activities.
Behaviour, Inclusion and Community
- Maintain discipline and promote positive behaviour in line with school expectations.
- Work flexibly with colleagues, particularly in smaller school settings.
- Work with parents and governors to support involvement in the school and development of resources.

- Creativity and imagination, with skills in areas such as music, drama, dance, arts or crafts advantageous.

- Satisfactory health record and DBS.

About Birch Hill Primary School
We are a two-form entry community school serving the Birch Hill and Hanworth districts of Bracknell Forest. In addition to the main school, we offer a nursery and a Specialist Resource Provision (SRP) catering for children with ASD and MLD. We can accommodate 420 children, plus 26 spaces in our nursery, which offers flexible 30 hours a week. The school is organised into two Key Stages - EYFS/ KS1 and KS2.
Our motto is: Learn, Believe, Achieve Together. We set high standards of work and achieve this through providing a curriculum that also develops children's belief that they can achieve their highest aspiration, while working closely with parents and the whole community.
