What skills and experience we're looking for

About the Role We are seeking a committed and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated Autism Resource Base. This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils with autism in a specialist setting within a mainstream school, helping them to achieve their full potential both academically and socially.

Working under the guidance of the class teacher and SENDCo, you will provide personalised support to pupils with autism, enabling them to access a tailored curriculum in a structured, supportive and nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with autism
  • Support the delivery of individualised learning programmes and adapt activities to meet pupil needs
  • Use a range of strategies including visual supports, structured routines and sensory approaches
  • Assist pupils in developing communication, social interaction and emotional regulation skills
  • Implement behaviour support plans consistently and positively
  • Promote independence, confidence and self-esteem in all pupils
  • Support transitions between activities and settings
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and external professionals
  • Contribute to the creation of a calm, safe and predictable learning environment

What We Are Looking For

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND, particularly autism (desirable)
  • A patient, empathetic and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Understanding of strategies to support autism (e.g. TEACCH, PECS, visual timetables)
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and families
  • A proactive and flexible attitude
