Cleaner in Charge with Key holder responsibilities job summary
St George’s CofE (Aided) Primary School is seeking to appoint a reliable, hardworking, and motivated Cleaner in Charge / Key Holder to join our friendly and dedicated site team.
This is an important role within the school, helping to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for pupils, staff, and visitors. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day cleaning operation, supporting the cleaning team to deliver consistently high standards, and ensuring all areas of the school are maintained to an excellent standard.
As a Key Holder, you will also play a vital role in the security of the premises, carrying out opening and closing procedures and ensuring the site remains secure at all times. Working in a busy school environment, you will be adaptable, proactive, and able to respond effectively to changing priorities and operational needs.

Key Information:
Hours & Pay
- 18.75 hours per week
- Monday to Friday, 3:00pm to 6:45pm
- Term time plus 2 weeks (40 weeks per year)
- Hourly rate: £13.70

Duties will include:- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout classrooms, offices, corridors, and communal areas.
- Vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping a variety of floor surfaces to ensure a clean and safe environment.
- Cleaning and sanitising toilets, washrooms, and welfare facilities.
- Emptying bins and disposing of waste in accordance with school procedures and health and safety guidelines.
- Safely using cleaning equipment, machinery, and cleaning products.
- Carrying out scheduled and reactive cleaning tasks to support the day-to-day operation of the school.
- Adapting cleaning duties as required to meet the changing needs of the school environment.
- Reporting any maintenance issues, hazards, or stock shortages to the relevant member of staff.
- Contributing to a safe, welcoming, and hygienic learning environment for pupils, staff, and visitors
- Previous cleaning experience is desirable but not essential
- Be reliable, hardworking, and take pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
- Demonstrate excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to their work.
- Be flexible, adaptable, and able to respond effectively to changing priorities and daily requirements.
- Work confidently both independently and as part of a wider team.
- Have a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a commitment to providing a safe and pleasant environment for pupils, staff, and visitors.
- Be punctual, organised, and capable of managing their workload effectively.
- Previous cleaning experience is desirable; however, full training will be provided for the right candidate.
- Have an understanding of health and safety procedures, or a willingness to learn.
