Responsible to: Assistant Principal: Safeguarding and Pastoral

Main Purpose of the role

You will be responsible for ensuring staff and students receive support and guidance with their medical and mental health needs.

Main Responsibilities

In the first instance, the duties and responsibilities are listed below. Going forward, as the needs of the College change, the duties and responsibilities within this role may also be subject to further change.

  • Lead on all first aid matters across College, coordinate and be the main responder on the College’s first aid team and maintain accurate records of daily incidents ensuring that accident reports are completed in accordance with the College’s Health and Safety policy
  • Maintain student medical files and to work in partnership with external organisations to ensure that students receive appropriate and timely support.
  • To support students with medical leads and assist in the writing and updating of Medical Care Plans
  • Work with the pastoral team to develop a health and well-being tutorial programme and resources, focusing on issues such as sexual-health, drugs awareness, diet and exercise.
  • Be part of the college core safeguarding team working closely with the college Safeguarding Officer to caseload referrals and ensure that these students are kept safe in line with keeping Children Safe in Education and Working Together to Safeguard Children.
  • Support students if they require hospital treatment including attending Accident and Emergency as required.
  • Work with the pastoral management team to support the team to help improve attendance, retention and punctuality at the College via the Fitness to study process.
  • Offer training to staff and students on managing medicines and medical conditions.
  • Receive, store and administer student medication where required.
  • Lead on a wide range of projects and initiatives across the College, relating to health, well being and healthy living.

  • The post holder is required to work in accordance with both organisational and personal responsibilities for data protection as outlined in College policy documents.
  • Annual salary will be in accordance with Sixth Form Colleges’ Support Staff Pay Scale. Sixth Form College sector conditions of service apply, which are very similar to schools’ sector arrangements and salaries are reviewed by national negotiation with effect from 1st September each year.
  • College support staff are eligible to join the national Local Government Pension Scheme.
