Queen Elizabeth’s School, Barnet - one of the country’s leading secondary schools - is seeking a dynamic and commercially astute individual to join our team as Commercial Manager.

About the Role

This newly created position offers an exciting opportunity to shape and lead the School’s commercial strategy working closely with our CFO, Deputy Head (Operations) and Headmaster. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and developing income-generating opportunities and partnerships, managing some of our commercial activities, and ensuring the effective use of the School’s assets to support its long-term sustainability and excellence.

Queen Elizabeth’s School, Barnet is a stand-alone Academy Trust. It is supported by an associated charity, The Friends of Queen Elizabeth’s, which owns and operates two trading companies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a commercial strategy aligned with the School’s values and vision.
  • Maximise revenue from existing and new facilities hire, events, and other commercial activities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners and stakeholders.
  • Provide direction and support to the School Shop with a focus on business development and innovation.
  • Participate in procurement cycles and oversee contracts, pricing models, and service delivery to ensure quality and profitability.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to identify new opportunities and support strategic initiatives.

Terms and conditions

The contractual terms will be agreed on appointment, but it is anticipated that our new colleague will work full-time during term-term (typically 190 days per annum with our office hours being 8.00am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday.) The school holidays will largely be taken as leave, save for the equivalent of c.15 working days (which can be worked flexibly) and periodic remote checking of incoming email and responding to any urgent issues arising.

The School offers supportive terms of employment, generous training opportunities, and membership of the local government pension scheme. Actual salary will depend upon the agreed working pattern but will be within a range of £40,000 to £50,000 per annum.
