About us and the role
Avanti Grange Secondary School is seeking to appoint a diligent and proactive individual to the position of Cover Manager. The successful post holder will manage cover for day-to-day, short-term and long-term absences for teaching and support staff, minimising disruption to the effective running of the school.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a school rated Outstanding in all areas by Ofsted in May 2025. Avanti Grange is part of Avanti Schools Trust, a twelve-school multi-academy trust committed to educational excellence and the development of well-rounded young people.
This role is central to the smooth operation of the school day. It is important that the post holder is confident in the use of IT and school management information systems; experience of Arbor would be advantageous, though training will be provided. You will also need to be confident providing classroom supervision when required as part of the role.
The post holder will line manage the Cover Supervisor team and liaise with external supply agencies, maintaining accurate absence records and producing regular reports for the Senior Leadership Team.
What will you do?
- Plan, coordinate and arrange daily cover for all absent staff, ensuring that all lessons and duties are appropriately covered each day.
- Review and improve the effectiveness of cover management systems on an ongoing basis to increase efficiency and support safeguarding.
- Build effective professional relationships across the school community.
- Provide classroom supervision in the absence of a teacher, implementing lesson plans left by the absent member of staff.

Avanti Grange is a school that is committed to giving all children an engaging and enriching educational experience. We provide a richly diverse and connected school environment, representative of the world that our pupils will enter. Our pupils mature into individuals who are ambitious, open-minded and confident. Along with our academic pathway, we also take care to support individual character formation and spiritual insight through The Avanti Way.
Each pupil at our school is celebrated for their individual talents. For our pupils’, school is about exploring strengths and developing academic and personal skills that will ensure that every child is well prepared for the quickly changing world that awaits them. It is our promise that we will create an environment of challenge, enjoyment and collaboration, both within our school and throughout the Avanti Schools Trust and beyond.
Avanti Schools support each person’s life journey along three parallel paths: Educational excellence; Character formation; and Spiritual insight.
Avanti’s unique ethos places a key emphasis on each individual’s wellbeing and good mental health. Children with higher levels of emotional, behavioural, social, and school wellbeing, on average, have higher levels of academic achievement and are more engaged in the school community. All our schools share a dedicated approach to wellbeing, from providing yoga and mindfulness sessions, sports and exercise, charity work, and working with parents and carers as co-educators.
