Cover Supervisor job summary

The East Specialist Inclusive Learning Centre (SILC) is a 2-19 generic special school with 442 pupils on roll. All our pupils have special learning needs and some have physical/ medical difficulties. The East SILC is a complex organisation which operates on a variety of sites to provide a range of outreach services across the city, including partnerships with primary and secondary providers, the city-wide Physical Difficulties and Medical Service including a moving and handling service, as well as the Medical Needs Teaching Service for Leeds.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Cover Supervisors to be appointed at the East SILC. These roles could be based at one of our main sites; John Jamieson, Roger Cannon, Jack Clark or at one of our partnership sites; Whitkirk Primary School, Temple Moor High School or Brigshaw High School. The majority of our pupils have learning difficulties, and some have physical difficulties.

The Cover Supervisor will work alongside the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), Senior Learning Support Leads (SLSLs) and teachers to provide cover for whole classes during the planned or unplanned absence of teachers and/or teaching staff. Cover Supervisors may also be required to cover other roles which support learning as directed by the Senior Leadership Team.

This post is open to all applicants who meet Higher Level Teaching Assistant standard or equivalent qualification/experience.

The East SILC has a progressive staffing structure in place which is supported by Continual Professional Development. A thorough induction process is in place.

Appointments are made subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS formally CRB) and medical clearance from Leeds City Council’s Occupational Health Service.
