Cover Supervisor job summary

Are you looking to gain valuable experience in a secondary school setting before pursuing a career in teaching? Do you have the confidence and enthusiasm to support students’ learning and help maintain a productive classroom environment?

We are looking to appoint an excellent Cover Supervisor to join our supportive team. Working under the guidance of subject leaders, you will supervise classes during the short-term absence of teaching staff, ensuring that students remain on task and engaged in their learning.

This role offers:

  • A fantastic opportunity to develop classroom management skills
  • First-hand experience in a school environment
  • The chance to work alongside experienced and supportive staff
  • A full induction programme and ongoing professional development

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a positive, flexible attitude and remains calm under pressure
  • Demonstrates energy, enthusiasm, and confidence in managing student behaviour
  • Has strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Holds GCSE Maths and English (grade C/4 or above)
  • Enjoys working with young people and building positive relationships
  • Can work flexibly and adapt to a variety of classroom situations

The role will include:

  • Supervising lessons with pre-set work provided by subject staff
  • Supporting Heads of Department or SLT with the development of resources when not covering
  • Contributing ideas to improve learning and engagement
  • Providing break and lunchtime supervision as required
  • Participating in an induction programme covering school policies, behaviour procedures, and observation of excellent classroom practice

Previous experience of working in a school setting would be an advantage, but is not essential. This is an ideal post for a graduate or aspiring teacher looking to build confidence and practical experience in a supportive school environment.

We offer a supportive working environment within a brilliant team, ample opportunities for personal career development, a comprehensive staff wellbeing service including on-line GP access and free gym facilities on site.

Hours: 5 days per week, Monday to Friday 8:30am - 3:30pm

Term time [38 weeks per year] plus INSET training days [1 week]
