Cover Supervisor job summary
Work where it matters most, achieve what matters more.
Be part of a team where passion meets purpose, as we work together where the challenge is greatest to change the lives and build the futures of children and young people.
Join Ormiston Rivers Academy as a Cover Supervisor and play a vital role in ensuring that learning continues seamlessly whenever teachers are absent. Working 32.5 hours per week, term time only, you will supervise whole classes, deliver the lesson instructions set by teachers, and maintain good order so that every student stays focused, engaged and on task. This is an ideal role for someone interested in a teaching career and looking to gain classroom experience.
As our Cover Supervisor, your responsibilities will include supervising students engaged in learning activities, responding to general questions, promoting positive behaviour and dealing promptly with any incidents in line with Academy policy. You will provide accurate feedback to teachers on the conduct of each lesson, keep appropriate records, support the use of ICT, and contribute to daily lunchtime duties and wider cover across the school, helping to create a safe, inclusive and respectful learning environment.
About you
We are looking for an individual educated to NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent qualification or experience) with excellent literacy and numeracy skills and successful recent experience working with children and young people in a school environment. The ideal candidate will be calm under pressure, flexible, highly organised and ICT literate, with excellent communication skills and the ability to build respectful, trusting relationships with students and adults alike. You should be able to implement behaviour management strategies effectively, set high expectations for students, and demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
