Job title: Cover Supervisor

Salary: CSET9 £28,598 FTE, £18,615 prorated

Hours: 28 hours per week, 39 weeks of the year (term time only + INSET)

Contract type: Fixed term until 31/08/2027

About the role

In this role, you will be the face of support in the classroom. When a teacher is away, you will step in to lead the lesson, guide students through pre-planned tasks, and keep them focused, motivated, and safe. No two days are the same, and your presence will be key in helping our students maintain their momentum and enthusiasm for learning.

What you will be doing:

  • Stepping up to guide classes through structured work left by their teachers, ensuring they stay on task and get the most out of their lesson.
  • Creating a welcoming, focused and respectful classroom environment where everyone feels safe and ready to learn.
  • Helping students navigate their work, answering their questions and offering tailored support to individual learners or small groups.
  • Handing completed work back to teachers and sharing useful updates on student progress and behaviour.
  • Stepping in to assist with break-time supervision or help out students who need a quieter, alternative space to work.
  • Under the direction of teachers, preparing engaging learning resources, design vibrant classroom displays and help keep student records up to date.

About You

We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with teenagers, brings a positive attitude to the corridors and can think on their feet. If you are a natural communicator who can build quick rapport with students and staff alike, you will thrive here!

You will:

  • hold at least GCSE-equivalent qualifications (NVQ Level 2 or equivalent) in English and Maths.
  • have a background working with young people
  • be passionate about student welfare and are ready to actively protect and promote the safety of our pupils.
  • be an effective multitasker who can manage a busy daily schedule with a calm, polite and professional approach.
  • be proactive, keen to learn new techniques and excited about developing your career in education.

About us

Mangotsfield School has been recognised by Ofsted as a “rapidly improving, community focused, ambitious school.” In our last inspection we were awarded Good in all categories, a testament to the vision and dedication of the leadership and teaching body.

Mangotsfield School has a strong ethos built on our four values. In all aspects of school life we encourage students to love learning, embrace challenge, give and earn respect and grow our community. Our classrooms, our corridors and our systems are built on these values: this supports our culture where we can meet individual needs and close the gaps for our students.

Mangotsfield School is a local secondary school firmly rooted in, and proudly working within, the community which it serves. The school is situated in pleasant semi-rural surroundings on the north-eastern outskirts of Bristol. Mangotsfield School benefits from being part of a wider trust and partners with Downend School to deliver 16-19 opportunities for all students.

We can offer you:

  • Happy, engaging students who thrive on inspirational leadership
  • A supportive trust and school community
  • Strong collaboration across the trust family of schools and access to a centralised team of specialists across all areas of school operations
  • A commitment to high‑quality CPD, with dedicated time and budget for your development
  • A values‑driven ethos where diversity, equity and inclusion are lived every day
  • Recognition of continuous service (modification order) to protect employment rights and entitlements
  • Local Authority Pension Scheme with generous employer contributions and death‑in‑service cover
  • Occupational sick pay to support you during illness or unexpected emergencies

Everything at Mangotsfield School is based around its school
values driven by Headteacher, Hetty Blackmore. Having first
joined the school as a newly qualified teacher when she was
23 years old and returned to lead it later in her career, she is
very proud of the journey the school is on.

Mangotsfield School is proud to serve its community and has
been part of the local community since 1957. They have just
celebrated being rated as a ‘Good’ school by Ofsted (visit
March 2022).

There are wonderful resources and facilities on site, allowing
students to embrace curricular and extra-curricular
challenges from DT, art, dance, drama and a climbing wall to
name a few. There is a lot of open space, which is green and
calm. And this sense of calm is echoed in the school itself.
The school has a proud sporting history and teams have
travelled as far as Wembley to take part in national
competitions. The school is also on a mission to broaden
horizons with many co-curricular trips taking place, such as a
Year 7 trip to Slimbridge Wetlands for art research and a
Year 8 trip to Tyntesfield House to explore gothic horror
within the English curriculum.
