Cover Supervisor and LSA combined role job summary

Blackfordby St Margaret's CE Primary School is seeking a caring, flexible and enthusiastic individual to join our dedicated team in a unique dual-role position. This rewarding opportunity combines the responsibilities of a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) and Cover Supervisor, providing varied and meaningful work supporting pupils' learning and wellbeing across the school.

Working afternoons only, you will:

As a Learning Support Assistant (5 hours per week)

  • Support teaching and learning activities under the direction of class teachers.
  • Work with individual pupils and small groups to help them achieve their learning targets.
  • Assist pupils with additional needs, including those with EHCPs and support plans.
  • Promote pupils' social, emotional, physical and academic development.
  • Help create an engaging, safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Support the preparation of learning resources and classroom displays.

As a Cover Supervisor (8 hours per week)

  • Supervise whole classes during the short-term absence of teachers.
  • Ensure pupils remain engaged in pre-planned learning activities.
  • Promote positive behaviour and maintain a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Provide feedback to teachers on pupil engagement, progress and behaviour.
  • Support the organisation and delivery of classroom activities across the curriculum.
  • Use initiative to manage lessons effectively while adhering to school policies and procedures.

We Are Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has experience of working with children in a school or educational setting.
  • Can build positive relationships with pupils, staff and families.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates confidence in leading and managing groups of pupils.
  • Has a flexible approach and can adapt to a variety of classroom situations.
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Works effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Holds GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths (or equivalent).
  • Has a Teaching Assistant qualification, NVQ Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent experience (desirable).
